Govan School Blaze
At around 00:15 hrs today, Strathclyde Fire & Rescue's
Operations control centre based in Johnstone, received reports of
fire in the now unoccupied former St Saviours School in Dunsmuir
Street, Govan.
Emergency crews were despatched and quickly on scene, where they
were faced with a well established blaze, already involving around
50% of the building.
Assistance of further crews and specialist appliances were quickly
ordered on to the scene to deal with the situation with, at its
highest point, around forty firefighters deployed.
Specialist high reach appliances were utilised to direct high
volume water jets down onto the flames to bring the blaze under
control. The blaze was confined to the school premises and
prevented from spreading to adjacent properties. No injuries to or
involvement of people has been reported.
A joint investigation into the cause of the blaze is being
undertaken by Strathclyde Fire & Rescue & Strathclyde
Police.
