A dramatic rescue for Govan residents

- At 9.12 am on Thursday morning our Operations Support
Centre mobilised appliances from Renfrew, Govan and Maryhill in
response to a call regarding a house fire in Govan. Within minutes,
firefighters arrived at the scene to find the ground floor flat in
a four-storey block well alight. Firefighters wearing breathing
apparatus entered the building, using hose reel jets to extinguish
the fire. Meanwhile, our Arial Rescue Platforms were used to rescue
residents trapped in the flats above. Four casualties were treated
at the scene for the effects of smoke inhalation, with a man and a
woman taken by ambulance to the Southern General Hospital for a
precautionary check-up.
- On Thursday afternoon, a crew from Douglas was called to
a flooding incident at a local house. At the scene firefighters
took care of a man with a serious heart condition who was
suffering from chest pains before handing him over to ambulance
personnel.
- In the early hours of Friday morning, firefighters from
Gourock Community Fire Station were mobilised to an incident
involving a man in the water some 70 metres off the shore at
Gourock. Firefighters worked with the local coastguard who rescued
the man from the sea. The casualty was then taken to Inverclyde
Royal Hospital suffering from hypothermia.
