'Mitchell' hosts Cheapside Exhibition
Glasgow's Mitchell Library is this month hosting an outstanding
exhibition to mark the 50th anniversary of the Cheapside Street
Disaster.
The exhibition shows dramatic photographs taken at the scene of
the disaster on the 28th of March 1960 when a whisky bond
exploded.
The exhibition also includes a fire station log book
listing the names of the 14 firemen and five salvage corps members
who were killed in the explosion, and firefighting equipment from
the postwar period.
The exhibition is in the foyer of the Mitchell Library, off
Granville Street.
