Fire in high-rise block

At around 07 45 this morning fire appliances from Clydebank, Maryhill and Knightswood Community fire stations attended a call to a fire to the 11th floor of a 12 storey block of flats at 2214 Great Western Road Glasgow.

At around 07:45 this morning fire appliances from Clydebank, Maryhill and Knightswood Community fire stations attended a call to a fire to the 11th floor of a 12 storey block of flats at 2214 Great Western Road Glasgow.
On arrival fire fighters were faced with an extremely well developed fire and were informed that the occupier was still in the property.

Attending crews, faced with severe fire, heat and smoke successfully entered the flat, searched and extinguished the fire preventing fire spread to the upper floor of the building.

The occupier of the property had managed to get out of the flat prior to the arrival of the Fire Service and was suffering from severe smoke inhalation.

He was treated by Ambulance personnel at the scene before removal to hospital. There were no other people at the scene requiring treatment.

Strathclyde Fire and Rescue's Fire Investigation Team are working with Police to identify the cause. There is no further information at this time.
