At around 07:45 this morning fire appliances from Clydebank,
Maryhill and Knightswood Community fire stations attended a call to
a fire to the 11th floor of a 12 storey block of flats at 2214
Great Western Road Glasgow.
On arrival fire fighters were faced with an extremely well
developed fire and were informed that the occupier was still in the
property.
Attending crews, faced with severe fire, heat and smoke
successfully entered the flat, searched and extinguished the fire
preventing fire spread to the upper floor of the building.
The occupier of the property had managed to get out of the flat
prior to the arrival of the Fire Service and was suffering from
severe smoke inhalation.
He was treated by Ambulance personnel at the scene before
removal to hospital. There were no other people at the scene
requiring treatment.
Strathclyde Fire and Rescue's Fire Investigation Team are
working with Police to identify the cause. There is no further
information at this time.
