Manhole Rescue
An 11 year old boy was rescued by fire crews from a drainage
manhole within the grounds of Killermont Primary School in
Bearsden shortly after 1 p.m. this afternoon.
Fire crews from Milngavie, Maryhill, Easterhouse and Clydebank
Community Fire Stations were mobilised to the the school after the
staff at the school became aware of the situation.
The boy, who had climbed down inside the manhole, was
subsequently released after fire crews were able to sufficiently
excavate the surrounding area and free the pupil.
The shocked youth was examined by the attending paramedics and
ambulance crews and was extremely fortunate in sustaining only
bruising to his leg. He was able to be taken home by his
parents.
A member of Strathclyde Fire & Rescue, after permission had
been given by the head teacher, spoke to the school children about
the dangers involved in playing in, on or near areas such as
these.
