Fire Crews attacked
Shortly after 7:00pm, a local Fire Crew from Cumbernauld
Community Fire Station were attacked by a group of youths as they
were travelling to nearby Chestnut Avenue in the town, to undertake
a Community Home Fire Safety Visit.
The attack which happened in Blackthorn Road, saw youths throw
stones at the Appliance, causing damage to the vehicle's
windscreen. No Firefighters were injured in the incident.
The crews immediately requested the assistance of Strathclyde
Police.
Whilst the crews still carried out the Home Fire Safety Visit,
on return to the Station the vehicle was inspected, and has had to
be temporarily replaced in order for a replacement Windscreen to be
fitted.
An investigation into the incident will be undertaken by
Strathclyde Police.
There is no further information at this stage.
