Crews Tackle Flash Flooding
Strathclyde Fire & Rescue received 117 calls to flash
flooding this evening.
Strathclyde Fire & Rescue received 117 calls to flash
flooding this evening between 5.45pm and 11pm.
Calls were initially received to the Rothesay and Helensburgh
areas of Argyll and Bute. The rain progressed further south
into North Ayrshire and multiple calls were received to flood water
affecting residential properties, roads and the rail network in
Largs and Kilbirnie.
At 8.46pm larger scale flooding affected the Mill Court area of
Kilbirnie as the River Garnock's banks were breached.
At 9.23pm hours the flood water caused a wall to collapse
onto the Glasgow to Largs main railway line near Pencil View,
Largs. The line was immediately closed by Network
Rail.
At its peak, 65 firefighters from Argyll & Bute, North
Ayrshire, Glasgow, Renfrewshire & Inverclyde and North
Lanarkshire community fire stations were called to reduce the
effects of the flash flooding.
