Large house fire in Ayr
At 4.14 am on the 27th September 2010, Strathclyde Fire &
Rescue Operations Control received several emergency calls
reporting a fire at 39, Castlehill Road, Ayr.
Firefighters from Ayr community fire station were initially
mobilised to the scene. On arrival the crews were faced with
a rapidly developing fire within the roof space of a large
detached, two storey unoccupied house. The incident commander
rapidly assessed the fire scene and requested further assistance
from South and North Ayrshire community fire stations.
A total of forty firefighters from Ayr, Dreghorn, Kilmarnock and
Maybole community fire stations brought the fire under control
using ground and aerial water monitors from hydrant water supplies
in Castlehill, Inverkar and Dongola Roads, Ayr. The fire was
confined to the building, with firefighters preventing fire spread
to nearby residential properties.
Firefighters remain at the scene to ensure all pockets of fire
are fully extinguished.
The cause of the fire is not yet known. A full investigation is
being jointly undertaken by Strathclyde Fire & Rescue and
Strathclyde Police.
