High winds and heavy rain batter Strathclyde

Strathclyde Fire & Rescue has dealt with 15 weather-related incidents between 12 noon and 6pm this evening. Incidents were as far apart as places such as Glasgow, East Kilbride, Ayr and Troon.

Most of the incidents involved structural damage caused by high winds, with signs, slates and other fixtures hanging from buildings.

At one incident, firefighters used the high-reach capability of an Aerial Rescue Pump to remove a metal railing which was hanging dangerously from a tenement on Great Western Road near Anniesland Cross in Glasgow.

Fire crews also responded to a report of people trapped in a car by a fallen tree in Pollok Country Park on the south side of Glasgow.

When the firefighters reached the scene,  they discovered that the car had in fact collided with the tree and that the occupants had got out of the vehicle with no report of injuries.
