Incident Update - 5th July 2011

Another busy night for our firefighters

Clydebank crew

Yesterday, firefighters across Strathclyde attended some 137 incidents, including 52 fires, 58 false alarms and 24 special service incidents.

  • At 10pm last night, following reports that smoke had been seen coming from a close, firefighters from Millport wearing breathing apparatus kits rescued an elderly female from a ground floor flat, providing oxygen at the scene to combat the effects of smoke inhalation. The female was later taken to hospital to have a full check up.
  • At 4am this morning, firefighters were called to a well developed fire in the top floor of a block of flats in the Pennilee area of Glasgow. Firefighters battled the blaze, which had also spread to an adjacent roof via the loft space of the flats, for several hours as the morning progressed. All residents were evacuated and no one was injured.

Across the area firefighter's also attended a total of 13 'open-hydrant' incidents where water hydrants had been deliberately tampered with. As well as being a nuisance for the local community these types of incident represent a real drain on Strathclyde Fire & Rescue's resources and can hamper our firefighter's when attending real emergency incidents.
