Incident update 15th July
Fire crews battle multi storey flat fire

Another extremely busy day for our firefighters yesterday with a
total of 152 incidents consisting of 65 fires, 64 false alarms and
16 special services
- At 4pm, Crews from Pollok, Govan, Castlemilk and Paisley
Community Fire Stations attended a large fire in the Cardonald area
of Glasgow. The fire broke out on the fifth floor of a seventh
storey block of flats and tragically one elderly resident was
confirmed dead at the scene. Crews wearing breathing apparatus
conducted a search and rescue of the building and led occupants to
safety where appropriate and where there was no need for
evacuation, firefighters remained with residents to offer
reassurance. The incident continued for a considerable time and
Strathclyde Fire & Rescue's state of the art Aerial Rescue Pump
was brought in to attack the fire in the upper
floor.
- At the other end of the city, firefighters from Easterhouse
were also tackling a house blaze this time in Baillieston.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus fought the fire in the
first floor flat using a main jet.
- Just before 7pm, a crew from Polmadie Community Fire Station
were called to assist police following an incident where a car had
gone through a fence onto a railway line. Firefighters used heavy
duty cutting equipment to cut away the fence to allow the vehicle
to be recovered.
