Another busy night for Strathclyde Fire & Rescue, with a
total of 195 incidents reported. Sadly, the good weather brought
some bad behaviour and our firefighters were required to close 29
maliciously opened hydrants. Open hydrants represent a real drain
on the local community, causing a huge amount of damage and
hampering firefighters attending fires.
- Retained crews from Maybole and Girvan were called to a fire in
a top floor flat in Girvan at 2.40pm on Wednesday afternoon.
Firefighters rescued a man from the premises who was treated at the
scene for the effects of smoke inhalation.
- Firefighters from Hamilton Community Fire Station attended a
road traffic collision in Uddingston involving four cars. Our staff
used heavy duty cutting equipment to free a woman trapped in the
wreckage. One casualty was taken to Monklands Hospital. The
accident occurred at 5.55pm on Wednesday afternoon and for a time
closed access to the M73 and M74 during the busy rush hour
period.
- At 6.53pm that evening, our Operations Support Centre was
alerted to a fire in a scrap yard in King George V Dock in Govan.
Firefighters arrived at the scene to find a large quantity of scrap
and a large industrial conveyor belt on fire. A total of 13
fire crews battled the fire over a period of 10 hours, using our
High Volume Pump to take additional water direct from the Clyde.
The incident was finally closed at 5.23am this morning.
- At 10.31pm, crews from Stewarton, Dreghorn, Kilwinning and Ayr
Community Fire Stations battled a large fire in some portacabins on
Dundonald Road in Kilmarnock.
- Early this morning firefighters from Springburn Community Fire
Station were called to a road traffic collision on Cumbernauld Road
in Glasgow where a car left the road and crashed down an
embankment. One man escaped with minor injuries and another was
taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary.
