Incident update 19 October

Whatever the weather, our firefighters are working to protect the people of Strathclyde.

Firefighter silhouettes

A fairly quiet night for Strathclyde firefighters with just 44 fires - and with the rain finally easing up, our special service requests were down from 33 the day before, to just eight in the last 24 hours.

  • At 8.06pm yesterday evening, our staff were called to a fire in a house in Commonside Street in Airdrie. An elderly woman was rescued and taken on to Monklands General Hospital for a precautionary check-up.
  • At 2.05am this morning, firefighters were called to Shaw Street in Govan where fire had taken hold of a first floor flat. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the burning building in search of persons reported as missing; they rescued one woman, who was treated at the scene by paramedics.
  • Just over an hour later at 3.20am, firefighters were summoned to Kelburn Street in Port Glasgow. A small fire in an electrical cupboard was quickly extinguished and an elderly man was treated at the scene for mild smoke inhalation.
