'WHIRLWIND' OF ACTIVITY FOR SFR

Crews called after caravans blown over by wind

FIREFIGHTERS from Maybole and Ayr were called to the Ranch Caravan site in Ayrshire  at around 12.21pm  yesterday (Wednesday),after reports that at least nine caravans had been overturned by what was later reported by eyewitnesses as a "whirlwind".

 With reports of people being trapped in the incident, firefighters undertook a full search of the caravans. No-one was found trapped, and all persons were accounted for.

 There were no reports of major injuries,  but an elderly man and woman were subsequently transported to Ayr Hospital by ambulance after suffering cuts, bruises and slight lacerations.
