Firefighters attend church fire
Four appliances attend Lanark fire

At 12.15pm two fire appliances from Lanark were mobilised to a
fire within an unoccupied church at Ladyacre Road in the town. The
Incident Commander very quickly assessed the dangerous situation, a
fast growing fire that was spreading into the roof space. There was
also a concern of the possibility of a partial structural collapse,
so the Incident Commander mobilised a further two fire appliances
including the High Reach Appliance from Motherwell, to extinguish
the fire and bring the incident under control.
The Incident Commander also contacted the Police for traffic
control and Building Control to make sure that the building
structure was in a safe condition. The building was reviewed by a
Building Control Officer and the decision was made to demolish the
unsafe gable wall.
Strathclyde Fire & Rescue operational crews along with our
partners worked closely to bring this incident to a conclusion with
minimum of disruption.
