Incident round-up 15 September

Fires, road traffic collisions and an ammonia leak.

EPU 500

A Road Traffic Collision (RTC) in Tarbert brought local crews to Kilberry Road yesterday afternoon at around 1.40pm. Firefighters used their extrication skills and equipment to free a man trapped in the wreckage of a crashed car; he was then handed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.

Around an hour later, our staff were called to a second RTC, this time in Graham Street, Johnstone. A car had crashed trapping the driver inside. Our firefighters extricated the casualty, who was taken by ambulance to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley.

Our Environmental Protection Unit (EPU) was mobilised to attend an ammonia leak in a factory in Glenburn Road, Prestwick yesterday afternoon at around 3.30pm. The EPU joined crews from Kilmarnock, Ayr, Ardrossan and Girvan, and brought a team of HAZMAT specialists, including a Scientific Advisor, to support the incident commander at the scene. The factory was immediately evacuated and our firefighters, donned in gas suits rather than their usual fire kit, worked with the factory's plant engineers to identify and stop the leak. The incident was eventually brought to a close at 8.23pm.

At 7.27pm last night, firefighters from Easterhouse Community Fire Station were called to attend to a fire that had started in the top floor flat of a three storey tenement block - luckily no serious injuries to report.
