Crews called to traffic collisions

STRATHCLYDE Fire & Rescue crews were called on to use special cutting equipment to free casualties from vehicles following two Road Traffic Collisions yesterday (Thursday).

In the first incident,  firefighters from Mauchline responded to a three-car RTC on the B743  miles west of Smallburn at just after 1pm.

Cutting equipment was used to remove the roof from the car to free  one male casualty, who was transferred to hospital by air ambulance. A further male casualty was checked by ambulance crews at the scene before being taken to hospital by road ambulance.

And last night, at 6.07pm, firefighters from Muirkirk were called to an incident on the A70 near to Boghead Farm following a two-car RTC.  Cutting equipment was used to free one male casualty, who was later transferred to Ayr Hospital by ambulance. A second male casualty was treated for minor cuts and bruises.

Meanwhile, crews  were also called to a fire at a supermarket in Greenock at 3.14am today. Firefighters used breathing apparatus and the Aerial Rescue Pump was set up as a water tower to tackle the fire, which was in the clock tower of the two-storey building.
