Firefighters Ensure Safety on Glasgow Underground System
Reported smell of burning at St Enoch Underground Station

Firefighters were called to St Enoch's Station on the Glasgow
Underground this afternoon after reports of a "smell of
burning".
Fire crews quickly evacuated the train and station, and then
checked the carriages methodically for any sign of fire. When it
had been established that there was no immediate danger,
Strathclyde Passenger Transport (SPT) engineers were then able to
check the train over, and established that a minor mechanical issue
had been responsible for causing the alarm.
Firefighters remained at the scene until SPT staff were content
that no further risk existed, and at time of writing, the
underground system is being readied for operation once more.
Strathclyde Fire & Rescue appreciate that there may have
been considerable disruption whilst essential checks were made, and
appreciate the patience displayed by Glasgow's commuters this
afternoon.
