Firefighters swing into action
Crews mobilised to car that bursts into flames on the M80

FIREFIGHTERS swung into action this morning, after a car burst
into flames at the junction of the M73 and M80, bringing rush-hour
chaos to North Lanarkshire.
At around 6.40am this morning crews from Stepps and Springburn
were mobilised to a vehicle on fire at the junction of the
motorways. Despite no-one being injured, smoke from the fire caused
widespread traffic disruption and tailbacks on both roads.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze and brought the
incident to a safe conclusion.
And yesterday, in another road-related incident, crews from
Motherwell were called to an road traffic collision in the town's
Windmillhill Street at around 11.05am. Upon arrival crews were
faced with an lorry on its side, with the driver inside.
Firefighters quickly rescued the driver, who was treated at the
scene by ambulance crews before being transferred to Wishaw General
Hospital, where he was treated for injuries to his arm.
Meanwhile, at around 3.45pm yesterday, firefighters from Pollok
and Clarkston were mobilised to a chip-pan fire in Glasgow's
Nitshill Road. Upon arrival at the scene, crews treated two elderly
women who had been in the house with oxygen therapy while
firefighters, wearing breathing apparatus, quickly extinguished the
fire using a hosereel jet. One of the women was subsequently taken
by ambulance to Hairmyers Hospital for further treatment.
