Two treated for smoke inhalation as crews tackle kitchen
blaze.

A FIRE in a kitchen left two people requiring medical treatment
as firefighters tackled a blaze in Cumbernauld in the early hours
of this morning.
At around 6am, local crews were called to the Baird Crescent
area of the town where they were faced with a fire involving
cooking materials.
The two residents of the property had left the building
before SFR personnel arrived on scene and were treated for smoke
inhalation by paramedics. Meanwhile, firefighters wearing breathing
apparatus, extinguished the blaze using a hosereel jet.
And, at around 6pm last night, firefighters from Bishopbriggs
and Kirkintilloch were called to an incident in the Calfmuir Road
area of Kirkintilloch. Crews arriving at the scene found a barn
that was well alight and, due to the size of the blaze, further
resources were mobilised.
Faced with difficulties in getting a strong supply of water
to the barn, crews used four fire appliances to create a water
relay that spanned half a mile, to ensure that good water pressure
was maintained to help firefighters tackle the fire.
Firefighters remained on scene for several hours as they
extinguished the blaze and brought the incident to a safe
conclusion.
