IT WAS a busy morning on the roads for Strathclyde Fire & Rescue today, as crews were called to deal with Road Traffic Collisions (RTCs) as commuters made their way to work.

In the first incident, firefighters were called in to make two vehicles safe following an accident on the A77 in Bellfield, Kilmarnock.

The incident was first reported at 7.23am, after  two vehicles collided just south of the Q8 garage in Bellfield. While no-one was trapped,  two male casualties were treated at the scene by ambulance crews as firefighters made the vehicles safe and cleared spilled fuel from the road.

Meanwhile, firefighters from Hamilton were called into action after an RTC on an off-ramp of the M74 before the Raith Interchange threatened to bring commuter chaos to the area.

Following reports of a collision between a light goods vehicle and a car at 7.30am, firefighters were mobilised to make the vehicles safe. Police were also called due to the large volume of traffic on the road, which was strewn with debris from the crash. A male casualty was treated at the scene for shock before being transferred to Wishaw General Hospital for a precautionary check-up.

Elsewhere, an elderly man was rescued from a car following an RTC in Renfrew yesterday.

Firefighters were called to the town's Castlehill Crescent at 1.14pm, after a vehicle hit a wall and several parked cars, trapping the male casualty inside. Firefighters gave first aid to the casualty at the scene before freeing him from the wreckage and passing him to paramedics for further treatment for a hand injury.
