With more than 80 domestic fires reported in the first 12 days of 2012, Strathclyde Fire & Rescue is today urging residents to make sure their homes are safe by booking a free home fire safety visit.

So far this year, SFR firefighters have attended a variety of incidents in the home ranging from fires involving candles to incidents involving kitchen appliances.

Fire can take householders completely by surprise as it sweeps through homes destroying possessions and tragically, sometimes even life.

However, for the most part fires are preventable.

Safety in the home begins with a proper understanding of fire - how it starts and how to prevent it. The good news is, that SFR are here to help! If you live in the Strathclyde area, SFR will come to your home and carry out a free, thorough home fire safety visit where we will check each room to make sure it is safe. What's more, if you don't already have a smoke alarm we will fit one completely free of charge.

The best part is, it's so easy to arrange. There are a number of ways to get in touch with us, you can:
