SFR 'fully prepared' for weather incidents
Move to assure public after heavy rain and high winds
forecast

STRATHCLYDE Fire & Rescue has moved to assure the public
that firefighters are fully prepared to deal with the heavy rain
and high winds forecast to hit the Strathclyde region today.
Following yesterday's gale-force winds, which saw SFR crews
attend almost 500 incidents, the Met Office has today issued a
yellow warning for Strathclyde, with heavy rain and strong winds
forecast. There are also concerns that the heavy rains could lead
to localised flooding in western areas.
Assistant Chief Officer and Director of Operations David Goodhew
said: "With the threat of heavy rain and high winds in the
west of Scotland today, there is the possibility of disruption to
transport, flash flooding and further damage to trees and other
structures.
"SFR crews are fully prepared to respond to whatever
weather-related situations present themselves, and we are making
sure that specialist flooding equipment, 4x4 vehicles and emergency
response boats are being made ready to respond as required. We
also have a full range of flood-related advice for homeowners on
our
website.
"Homeowners should also ensure that all items of garden
furniture - especially children's trampolines - are secured or
stored away to ensure it is not carried away by high winds, causing
damage or road obstructions.
"We are working closely with the Scottish Government and other
agencies to ensure a co-ordinated response to any weather-related
contingencies that may arise."
