Major Blaze at Derelict City Centre Factory
Kennedy Street, Glasgow

At 3.04am this morning, Strathclyde Fire & Rescue crews
were mobilised to a report of fire in the Fyfe and McGrouther
factory building in Kennedy Street in Glasgow city centre.
Appliances from Cowcaddens and Springburn Community Fire
Stations were in attendance within minutes to find a well developed
blaze in the building which is currently under demolition. The fire
had broken through the roof and further resources from Maryhill and
Yorkhill Community FireStations were ordered on, to help fight the
fire.
Two high reach appliances with water jets and external monitors
were deployed to bring the fire under control.
The rapid intervention by the Incident Commander and the efforts
of the firefighting teams saved nearby buildings belonging to John
Lewis stores and Tedesco from being affected by the use of
protective water curtains.
Fire crews in breathing apparatus entered parts of the building,
where it was safe to do so, to fight the fire internally.
Police were also in attendance and closed off numerous roads in
the vicinity to allow the firefighters to work in safety.
The incident is currently ongoing with firefighting
continuing.
