We are currently setting up our Volunteer Network to do a range of Community work in conjunction with SFR Community Safety, such as-

Youth Initiatives - Fire Cadets, Firereach, talks to Youth Clubs, presentations to schools.

Working with SFR - Home Fire Safety Advice, Seasonal Campaigns, talks to Elderly Forums.

REA involvement - Fundraising team for financing the REA, Charity fundraising team, establishing Branches etc.

Community Involvement - working with other civilian Volunteer and Charity Partners.

There must be a number of our members who are elderly, incapacitated, housebound, in homes or just plain lonely who would love to meet some of us for a blether.

It would be nice to be able to visit our elderly colleagues and enrich their lives in their twilight years with a blether, cup of tea and communal memories. I don't think it would be hard to talk about old times, new times, familiar names, old jobs etc to our old colleagues and it need
not be all-consuming or take up all of our time - but it would be a worthwhile addition to the services we as an Association could offer our members.

I would like to know if any of you would like to volunteer to start up a small home-visit section so that two or three of us could go along and visit our old colleagues once a month or so. It would give them something
to look forward to and we could learn a thing or two from the old-timers also.

If you are interested please let me know then I will start identifying the elderly members and get things moving.
Don't be shy now -I haven't met a firefighter or employee who couldn't talk the hind legs off a donkey so give me a call and we'll get this started. It all depends on your involvement so please don't hold back.
