Introductory Firefighting Training Course

Aim
To equip members of an in-house firefighting (first response) team in the use of first aid firefighting equipment and application of modern firefighting techniques. The Course incorporates simulated fire training scenarios.

Designed for
Designated emergency response team members.

Objectives
By the end of the course, students will understand the following principles:

  • Causes and consequences of fire.
  • Theory and basic principles of fire extinguishing equipment.
  • Practical use of portable extinguishers.
  • Practical use of fire hose and hose reel equipment in simulated firefighting situations.
  • Basic principles of fire prevention and fire protection.
  • Means of escape and evacuation procedures.
  • Smoke awareness - difficulties arising from smoke and darkness.
  • Human behaviour responses in fire conditions.
  • Case histories of fires relevant to particular industries - problems faced and lessons learned leading to the development of a modern firefighting approach.

Duration: Four days.

Location: SFR Training Centre, Glasgow.
