Advanced Marine Firefighting Training Course
These training courses are delivered in accordance with STCW 95 Regulations. SFR Training Centre is approved by the Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA).
Candidates must be aware that this course is physically demanding, involving live firefighting and the wearing of breathing apparatus.
Objectives
By the end of the course, students will understand the following principles:
- Fire behaviour - understand the process of flashover and backdraught, signs and symptoms and associated firefighting tactics.
- Develop knowledge of the combustion process including fuels, sources of ignition and methods of extinguishing fire.
- Understand the rules and provisions for fire protection, fire detection, portable fire extinguishing systems and breathing apparatus equipment.
- Breathing Apparatus construction and use.
- Personnel and equipment requirements regarding control stations and damage control.
- Organisation and leadership requirements of fire and damage control parties.
- Methods of attacking fires on board ship.
- Breathing Apparatus use under simulated live fire conditions.
- Hazards involved in firefighting at sea.
- Fire detection methods and means of giving alarm in case of fire.
Duration: Four days.
