Your Area
Strathclyde Fire & Rescue is one of the largest services in
Europe. Our 13,625 sq km includes 23 inhabited islands and we
boast a coastline longer than that of France.
Approximately 2.2 million people live in over 930,000 households
in the area, ranging from remote crofts and hamlets to Scotland's
biggest city, Glasgow.
One of the major advantages of our size is the economies of
scale we enjoy. These economies don't just relate to the purchasing
of equipment, but also to the provision of training, the
standardising of procedures, and the delivery of common support
services.
Despite our size, we know it is essential to remain close to the
communities we serve, and our core functions have been devolved to
nine Area commands.
Each Area is responsible for meeting Strathclyde Fire &
Rescue's obligations to the Fire Authority and for applying
policies according to the needs of the Area.
